IFPAC, 1-4 March 2026: Presentation & Exhibition
We will once again be exhibiting at IFPAC, the world’s premiere Process Analytical Technology (PAT) conference, on 1-4 March 2026 near Washington DC. We have also been accepted to give a presentation as per below. Looking forward to seeing many of you there!
Presentation Title: Representative sampling of dense powder/granule streams for inline PAT prediction of Blend Uniformity
Presenter: Giovana Fernandes Teixeira
Abstract:
Blend Uniformity (BU) is increasingly being predicted in real-time using inline spectroscopic measurements, especially in continuous tabletting. However, where BU is desired prior to the tablet press, direct insertion of PAT probes into power/granule streams faces significant challenges: material flow irregularities including air gaps and pulsing lead to highly noisy spectroscopic baselines, and small spectroscopic spot sizes relative to the material stream cause non-representative sampling.
We present an inline probe interface that attempts to overcome both shortcomings by placing a sampling wheel directly into the sample stream and in front of a probe window. The powder/granule stream is randomly sampled (as confirmed by Theory of Sampling calculations outlined in DS 3077:2024) and presented as a well-formed, consistent powder/granule bed to the probe for continuous measurement. As a result, a stable spectroscopic baseline is achieved, and BU prediction becomes precise and accurate, compared to identical NIR measurements performed without the sampling wheel.
