Brian Murphy

Operations Director

Brian joined Expo Process Analytics in November 2023 as Operations Director. In this role, he is responsible for the day-to-day management of the organization, ensuring operational efficiency, strategic alignment, and the effective execution of business objectives. He brings over two decades of leadership experience across the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Medical Device, and Biopharmaceutical sectors. Throughout his career, Brian has held senior management and tactical leadership roles, with a strong emphasis on lean methodologies, operational excellence, and continuous process improvement. His focus at Expo Process Analytics is to implement and optimize processes that support the delivery of high-quality, customer-centric solutions.

Brian holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and a Higher Diploma in Food Science and Technology from University College Cork. Brian is also certified in Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Brian enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and the occasional round of social golf!

Manuel Kuhs PhD

Commercial Director

Manuel joined Expo Process Analytics in March 2024 as Sales Manager and was promoted to Commercial Director in December 2024. He is responsible for all commercial topics and customer relationships.

Manuel first got involved with PAT during his PhD (crystallisation of organic molecules) and postdoc (twin screw wet granulation) where he used inline Raman spectroscopy to measure polymorphic form and API concentration in real time. Since leaving academia in 2016 he has been doing business development and application support for various market leading PAT vendors, including Endress+Hauser (Kaiser Raman) and Optimal (synTQ). He is excited to apply his experience and knowledge to help establish Expo as another market-leading PAT vendor.

Born in Germany, his family emigrated to Ireland where he has lived since the age of 11. Apart from sporting loyalties (Bayern Munich) he is now pretty much fully Irish!

Michael Goggin

Senior PAT Applications Engineer

Michael Goggin joined Expo Process Analytics in 2021 as a PAT Design and Applications Engineer. Michael is responsible for reviewing a client’s problem space and deriving a solution to meet the identified requirements. This includes design, manufacture, testing and eventual deployment on end user sites. He stays involved with matured device deployment, but focuses on new and bespoke systems, looking at continuous improvement through client feedback.

Michael is a graduate of Munster Technological University, holding a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a certificate in Validation Science. Prior experience working in the pharmaceutical sector affords him an insight to the high industry standards in regulated environments.

When letting loose, Michael is an avid martial artist with a second degree blackbelt in Tae-kwon-do. Alongside his own training, he enjoys coaching as a means of giving back to the community.

Giovana Fernandes Teixeira

Pharmaceutical Engineer

Giovana joined Expo Process Analytics in September 2025 as a Mechanical Engineer. She supports the development of engineered products by applying advanced powder flow characterisation techniques and creating innovative test methods to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of powder handling processes across a range of industrial applications.

Giovana holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro and a master’s in Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Engineering from University College Cork, bringing a strong foundation that combines technical expertise with an industry-specific perspective. This vision enables her to approach challenges from different viewpoints, ensuring solutions that are practical, effective, and aligned with industry needs.

Originally from Brazil, she now resides in Cork, and outside of work she enjoys travelling to discover new cultures and exploring local cafés in search of great coffee.

JP De Beer

Executive Chairman

JP joined Expo Technologies in 2005 as an R&D Engineer, moving through various positions in the engineering function before becoming the Technical Director in 2009 after completing an MBA in technology management. In 2015, he was appointed Managing Director for the Holding company, overseeing the opening of a factory in Qingdao, China, and spun out the Expo Process Analytical business as its Executive Chairman.

His primary roles are to provide clarity of direction through the implementation of the company strategy, support the management team in creating an environment that enables success, and ensure The Expo Group provides a balance of outcomes for all our stakeholders, in line with our values and vision.

Having grown up in South Africa, he completed his degree in mechanical engineering before relocating to the UK. He enjoys an outdoor lifestyle, such as the English weather will allow, and spends his weekends running on trails or patiently making his way around a local golf course.

Phil Doherty

Scientific Advisor

Phil attained a MChem in Chemistry and Physiology at the University of Sunderland prior to joining Pfizer Global R&D in 1991. He worked there for 12 years in the Technology Development Group, making novel Process Analytical Technology systems for API and Solids Manufacturing applications.

Phil was the recipient of the 1997 AAPS Outstanding manuscript of the Year for Quality for pioneering work on the design and implementation of the world’s first Online NIR Blend analysis system. Work on the application of chemical imaging in pharmaceuticals & lab robotics followed. Subsequently Phil worked as the PAT Manager delivering innovative technologies such as Model Predictive Control of High Shear Wet Granulation and Inline measurement systems for Continuous Manufacturing of Pfizer’s biggest selling product.

In 2012 Phil founded Process Analytics Ltd, a company specialising in providing total Process Analytical Solutions and Quality-by-Design services to wider the pharmaceutical industry. In 2019 Process Analytics Ltd was acquired by Expo Technologies and became Expo Process Analytics Ltd, where Phil served as Managing Director and Chief Scientific Officer. In 2024 Phil started a new company, Acuitis Process Analytics, through which he continues to act as a key scientific consultant and visionary for Expo Process Analytics.

In his spare time Phil enjoys photography and travelling.

Steve Hammond

Scientific Advisor

Steve Hammond joined Expo Process Analytics in 2018 as a scientific advisor. Steve uses his 39 years of experience as a senior leader at Pfizer, to advise Expo on the technical value proposition for the Expo product line, as well as the scientific principles that underpin the individual products.

The focus for Steve is to understand the measurement needs of the markets that Expo Process Analytics operate in, and to develop an understanding of how Expo Process Analytics systems and resources can answer those customer needs.

Steve’s role as a Senior Director at Pfizer encompassed teams focused on the development and deployment of process analytical technology and material science/ forensic analysis support for Pfizer’s global manufacturing plant network. New product and innovative manufacturing technology introduction were a strategic focus in partnership with Pfizer R&D Groups.

A key overall driver for the resources within Steve’s Group was improved supply chain performance.

In his spare time Steve is a keen golfer and die-hard Manchester united supporter. Also Steve has an avid interest in history, particularly related to natural history.
